Just so it's clear, here are the results of uname:

uname -a

Bump.

Any chance that a mod/dev are looking into this?

I called your offices and was told a dev would give me a call back and I did not receive a return call.

I'm interested in using this software as an initial test-bed for server deployments and am also interested in licensing options. But I need to get a little support first if possible.

Thanks,

Bobby

I recommend that you post a bit more info so that you don't have to wait for the devs to tell you to do so. The output of the following may be of interest to them:

cat /proc/cpuinfo

free

strace gamecreate.x86

/sbin/ifconfig

The last one because what is supposed to happen after you entered your username and password, is that GC will try to detect you primary IP, as seen here:
Code:
./gamecreate.x86

LOCATIONS

  1) Africa
  2) Asia
  3) Australia
  4) Europe
  5) South America
  6) North America
  7) Other

Please enter the number of the location closest to where this host is located [1-7]: 4
Enter domain login: xxxxx
Enter domain password: xxxxx

GameCreate could not determine the primary IP address of this computer.
Please enter the primary IP address:

So something fishy may happen here if your network is "weird".

I have no firewall running currently on this box, all installed packages are up to date, as far as I can see this box meets the requirements of GameCreate. It is running a 32-Bit version of Fedora Core 13.

Alright, I will post the results of those commands, here goes...

Atom CPUs, I see. That *may* be the problem, but I am in no position to say.

Are you able to run an strace on the computer?

Ah, yeah forgot about strace, had to install it.

Also, have there been any bad experiences with the new dual core atoms? I'm running several counter-strike and teamspeak servers on these boxes and haven't run into any performance issues at all. Do you think it's an archetectural issue or something?

Here is the strace dump:

First off: You should take care to edit your post and remove the domain and password from the strace dump.

The reason I mentioned that Atom may be the problem is nothing more than it's a rather unconventional architecture for a game server, and there *may* be something fishy in the gamecreate code that is somewhat incompatible with the Atom architecture. This is just a wild guess on my side, though. Hopefully the devs will be able to make something out of the strace.

I'm afraid I don't have much more to provide you with at this point. Unless, of course, you try to just manually create the config-file to skip the setup-part which crashes on you? Create a file called gamecreate.ini and follow this template:
Code:
loginname yourdomainloginhere
master-ip us1.master.gamecreate.com%2Cus2.master.gamecreate.com
password yourdomainpasswordhere
ip your.ip.goes.here
log-file gamecreate.log

Now when you try to start gamecreate.x86, it shouldn't ask you all those questions, and given a bit of luck it may not crash at another part of the code.

Well that did get it a bit further, thanks for the advice on the ini file. Still crashing, just at a later point. Smile

I'm actually pretty surprised at how resilient the new dual core atoms are. They rate higher than the Pentium D class of processor, but just under the newer core 2 duos. I'm able to run several Teamspeak/Ventrilo servers on them and 2-3 gaming servers simultaneously and it seems to work great. It's a cheaper, energy effecient solution when running several server boxes in 1 place.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take a Xeon over an Atom anyday!

Too bad it still won't work for you. Hopefully one of the devs will check in soon.

Please note that your domain login information is still clearly visible in the strace dump above.

*bump*
I'm getting this myself.
I've done the work-around to get the client config setup but when trying to run the gamecreate client it still gets a Floating Point Exception
