Insurgency mod now has a Linux server:
http://www.insmod.net/downloads

I noticed that in packages.txt, insurgency is said
to be installed in "/Insurgency" (capital "I"):
Code:
insurgency srcds
- /Insurgency

When unpacking the mod tarball in Linux, this dir is
called "insurgency" (small "I"). Will this cause problems?
Should perhaps the package directory be changed
to a small "i" in packages.txt?

Just modify your copy of packages.txt to use a lowercase i.

It's just to tell build-update where to look for those mod files.

Yes, but there are two problems with this approach:
1. Every time I need to download packages.txt again
because of a new game, I'll have to remember to
perform the same modification.
2. The game startup command says "-game Insurgency" (less of a problem since that can easily
be changed).

So what I'll do for now is I will rename the folder
itself to "Insurgency".

/me don't like inconsistencies... Embarassed

Can you add FSHost (server for MS Flight Simulator
2002, 2004 and X)?

I've fixed up the issue with the capital I in insurgency.

I looked into the FSHost application but there's some big issues which mean that it won't work well in gamecreate. The main one is that it appears that there is no way to launch the exe and have the server start up automatically, it needs a manual button press to make the server live.

Thanks for the Insurgency fix Smile

Regarding FSHost: Are you sure? I just tried it, and
the server started up immediately. The start-button
is even greyed out.

This was using a completely fresh installation (just
unziped into a dir) of this file:

Edit: Also, http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/help.html#start

When you first run the program, you'll see the main window, and the game servers will start automatically.

You should:
1. Go through your list and remove all games that
are already supported.
2. Look up every game and see if they have dedicated
servers. Those that don't can be removed from your list.
3. Add links to downloads for all remaining games.
4. Read the first post in this topic:
http://www.gamecreate.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1950#1950

That will help the devs a lot Smile

The issue I had with the FSHost server was that the box I was testing on didn't have port 80 open.

I've had a look through the files but can't see anywhere obvious where I'm able to set config settings like the hostname and the ports it runs on.

Oh my goodness, I can't believe it! I've had a look
at how this works, and all the settings are actually
stored in the registry, not in config files! That's
horrible! That basically means that all GC can do
with this server is start and stop it. Everything else
has to be done either via the GUI itself or via the
remote web control (unless GC creates .reg-files and
they are run before startup Wink). Guess it's easier to
just use firedaemon or something to keep it running.

Thanks a lot for looking into it, but sorry for wasting
your time Sad

p.s.: The section on running multiple servers on one
host is hilarious:
