I am new to this. I have a linux box with 5 IP addresses. I have afew questions on how I should setup my servers.

First I am installing Counterstrike Source and I want to run 5 servers. How can I run 5 of them off of 5 different IP addresses with port 27015 without installing GameCreate as 5 different Hosts because that would cost money.

I tried installing a gameserver on a 2 diff ips with port 27015 and it just uses the same config files... That makes no sense... I would have to use a different port for each CS game created. It should be setup where I can install CS Source on the same Server as many times as I want up to as many IP's as I have.

Otherwise I have to have one cstrike folder with 5 diff configs labeled mani27015.cg or mani27016.cfg . Is there a way around this or is the only solution to install 5 Hosts of Gamecreate on the same server under a new IP.

ALso would it make any difference if i ran 5 servers off the same IP with 5 diff ports or run 5 servers with 5 different IP's. Either way they are on the same linux box I just didnt know if it would decrease bandwidth performance.

Another thing I have to say is its dumb how you can only install the same game once per host... It seems impossible to me how to create different types of servers if you use eventscripts and you share 1 autoexec.cg ... How can I load warcraft mod on one and gungame on the other...

Its not 'dumb'.

Game installs require more hard disk space, and take longer to setup servers on an ad-hoc basis (such as with temporary servers).

Most games do not require physical installations to run separate configurations.

Counter-Strike is one of the exceptions; we've hit a problem where we want to run concurrent servers (one with and without the game mods) however we just usually run them in separate physical computers instead.

It's definitely an option to implement, its just a bit tricky to come up with suitable management in the GUI to facilitate it.

Gamecreate allready supports this by using sub-domains.

I run 5 condition-zero servers with completely different setups (warcraft, gungame, etc...).

Just setup 1 sub-domain per "unique" server and do a separate game install on that subdomain.

You can also install the game without downloading the game files again and again, by choosing that option in the advanced options when installing the game.

I have a "clean" game installation on the hard drive that i just copy to the correct folder gamecreate is going to use when creating a new installation.

You can edit the one host you have and add the extra IPs and use them when creating the game servers.

I think that unless you have 5 separate NIC (network cards) on than box you can't have all the servers running on the same port, simply because you cant have 5 diferent application binding to the same port on the same NIC.

May I ask how you acquire 5 different IP addresses?

I'm beind a home router and as such Have 1 IP assigned to it :S

In order to run more than 1 game server of the same type, should I just use different ports?

Thanks again,

Zed.

Yep - Ports cost nothing, so you can just run multiple servers from the same IP Address, just different port numbers.
