Just some more dumb questions, but I want to understand this system.
Content Server: We would create a "master server" containing all the game files? Once created, we upload our hosts using this "contect"?
If so, how do we structure this? I see we would create a directory/subdomain?
I couldn't find anything on this topic. |

Yeah, instead of downloading 'BF2' from our content server, you provide your own copy and maintain it.
There's not really any documentation on it yet as its wrapping program is yet to be released. If you email me (click email link below) I can set you up with the content wrapper program. |

Bryan,
Think of the content server like the "skel" folder for the game directory when you were with game panel. Same concept and serves same purpose. |

Thanks. That makes sense. For Linux, where are the user files being loaded? Do they differ whether you use subdomains versus no subdomain? |

What do you mean by user files? |

The gamepanel system had master files in /skel. It would then copy to a user directory, e.g, /user1, /user2
Gamecp keep install files in /usr/local/gcp/installs and copies the files to /home/user1, /home/user2, etc.
In Linux, it is nice to have the installs in /home because you can easily integrate username and ftp. At least that is my simple understanding.
I was looking to see how the gamecreate system works so I can understand how things work. |

GameCreate will know of one central place to retrieve a game installation (Eg, BF2).
If you have a subdomain 'Subdomain A', and another subdomain, 'Subdomain B'.
You will need to 'install bf2' on subdomain a and b - The installation files will be pulled down from either your content master if specified, or gamecreate.com's content master.
With subdomains, each of them get their own installation folder.
So subdomain A may have bf2 in c:\gamecreate\gamecreate-xx\bf2
and another in \gamecreate\gamecreate-yy\bf2
So each subdomain is completly separated from another.
Additionally, if you enable FTP access over gamecreate, users logging in to their ftp folders will have access to their install folders without any effort on your part.
As an example, try this:
* in your top level domain ("provider" domain) - install BF2 on a host.
Create a subdomain, now install BF2 on that domain as well on the same host.
Now login to FTP to that host - Notice there are two installation copies of BF2. |

I have setup a machine for content folder. It is windows.
Do I need to make this file server?
Does the folder need to be set as webshare?
FTP? |

Bryan,
You know you could just use gamecreate's content server if you like.
Im sure though you have special configurations for your servers that gamecreate's content server may not have.
Just a thought. |

I am not understanding this setup. Do I copy the files from gamecreate to this content server? Do I install my own files here in content? If so, I install a directory with game files? Anything else. How do I know the directory name? Use the "unique name" listed on the content site?
I am assuming I upload files to this and when it installs these are used.
For Linux, I would install both the windows and Linux startup file and all other files. Just one /skel for Windows and Linux. All in installed to new host? |

As Andrew has said, you can provide your own content master - which is one or more game installs accessible over HTTP. I haven't used GamePanel, but from the sound of what you're saying, GameCreate differs in that it centralises all the content onto one host, instead of having a skeleton install of games on each host.
That said, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you use the GameCreate's content master (the default) instead of building your own. Any config files can be managed pretty easily (and with more flexibility) in GameCreate than when stored as part of the game install. |

I will reate the contect folder. Not exactly sure what to do?
http:
So create domain/subdomain, website.
Not ftp?
Select contect server and point to the domain.
Select games
Then what. Files load to my website? File.
I am doing this in windows 2003 server and would use IIS. |
