Never. It never specifically polls for updates on the content server.
Rather, once we update the game software on our master server (or, you do this on your own content server), and 'deploy' the update, it will inform all clients to update their installations as required.

Yes. When performing an update (this is very useful if you have your own content server), you can elect to stop the servers during the update (for example, a new game patch is released). This means GameCreate would stop the affected servers on each host (it wont touch servers which dont use the software thats being updated), update the software, then start the servers again.
You can also tell (once again, if you run your own content server) to *not* stop the servers for an update, which is useful if your just rolling out a map pack or othe minor changes which dont need a server restart.

We are still developing the finalized content server system, at the moment we do it via a set of php scripts so there is no literal friendly GUI, however if you have a little bit of know-how this should be pretty easy for you to get going.
Email me at andrew at mammoth dot com dot au if you would like some setup instructions and files.
