I was just wondering how CSS-servers are updated when
using GC. Apparently the -autoupdate command-line
argument isn't used, and it seems as if the content server's
version is not up to date since the update a few days back.
What's the mechanism used for updating CSS-servers?
I don't know since I performed a manual update via steam.
So is the procedure that whenever there is an update to
CSS issued via steam, you have to update your master
install, and then that installation will trickle down to the servers
if they have been set to be automatically kept up to date?
If so, does the update happen when the server is restarted
via GC, or at more frequent intervals?
Is there any problem involved with using GC if we change the
command-line so that steam automatically updates the CSS
servers upon mapchange (using the -autoupdate argument)
if we uncheck the "Automaticall keep installation up to date"
option upon installation? Is this a bad solution, or will there
perhaps be some kind of conflict between GC and steam if
we override GC this way?
We build the update on our master install and check it on our test servers. If it works correctly, we tell GameCreate to update everyone who has auto-update enabled.
At that point, the update is basically immediate - it doesnt wait until the next restart.
If you're happy to live without GameCreate's autoupdate, there should be no problem updating the game yourself (either via steam's auto update or otherwise).
