Ok, Im here from my clan, and we are upgrading our servers to suit the more modern needs of the gaming community.
Specs are:
Quote:
• Inte Xeon X3220 Quad Core [4x2.4Ghz, 2x4MB Cache]
• 2GB DDR2-667
• 73GB SAS 15,000RPM
• Private VLAN
• CentOS 5 x86_64(Latest Stable) Operating System
• 100mbit/sec Port
Well, we are deffinitly going with a Linux system, and we want to know which version the great folks here at game create would recommend. We will be running CoD, CoD: UO, MoHAA and some CSS, whats best?
Not being a representative if Mammoth Media, but
having several years of experience with running game-
servers in Linux, I'd suggest you should go with
whatever distribution you are already familiar with,
provided you don't hate it. As long as the distribution
doesn't prevent you from manually compiling the
kernel, it should be fine. I don't know any regular
distros that prevents you from doing this.
Debian _may_ be a bit shady at times, though, since
it lags behind most other distros in updating packages
to newer versions. This may cause problems related
to requirements on glibc.
