What am I missing here?
Can't get the configuration to work.
I have the right directory but it just doesn't work for me.
I'm probably missing something with GameCreate and my server files or something.

Sorry I guess I wasn't very clear.
In your configuration when you change your server name and password then you restart and save changes.
It doesn't change it. The server name and rcon password stays the same.
I know I'm missing something but unsure.

Have you manually edited the config file, hardcoding the servername and other settings?

On my counter strike servers the GC config files look like this:

hostname "%server:name%"

where %server:name% will be replaced with the propper name typed into the the configuration page.

Yes, please check the above.

Also you may have rogue files around the game install which are being executed instead (I've seen this happen with bf2). Try finding and deleting them.
