Hi there,
Our Call of Duty 4 server fails to start. The failures report seems to think it keeps trying, failing, trying, failing.
Also; two test Ventrilo servers have said "Updating" for 2 days now. I would stop them and remove them, but there's no button to stop them. Can someone please explain what the deal is here?
Thanks!
Regards,
Jamie |

My first thought on the cod4 server would be a query failure. I might be wrong, so post the error log here
On the ventrillo servers, ventrillo has stringent liscense agreements which require you to physically download and install their server files yourself. thus the GC installer wont be any good for this.
What you need to do is delete the servers and when you go to install ventrillo, you will be given a tick box option to say that you dont want GC to install all the files as you will do that (or something like that if i remember )
But...remember that the free version of ventrillo can only have a maximum number of 8 slots per server... so you might want to consider this
Post your error report for the cod server
Hope this helps,
Zedge. |

I can't delete the Ventrilo servers unfortunately - they're stuck in "Updating" mode and have been since launch. Can't stop/remove at all.
As for the COD4 log - where do I find this? |

Hi rec I'm just looking into this for you now.
Checking out the error vent is giving, and have reverted the command line for your cod4 server to default. |

I've reinstalled Ventrilo for you, and they seem to be working as normal.
I see you are reinstalling? CoD4 and haven't started up your server again. |

Steve; I've resinstalled COD4 and started another server, but with the same issue. |

I see you're getting the same problem as me (shutdown/attempt to start cycle).
I'm not sure if it will help, but someone mentioned changing cod4_launch.exe's name to iw3mp.exe and that fixed their issue of it not starting. I'd do it via FTP, but it doesn't seem to allow me. |

Tried that, and it's not working.
I'll have to have a look at it for you tomorrow sorry rec. |

No worries - I'll check back here tommorrow. Thanks for your help!
Edit: oh actually, for reference, when I said to rename it, that's not actually what the suggestion was. It was the other way around (so the server uses iw3mp.exe instead of cod4_launch.exe). |

Hi Steve,
Still no resolution here, after trying again numerous times. Any more ideas there?
I'm told if the server uses Windows, a recent DX dll is required.
Quote: | ***Requires some files from directx9 in the C:\Windows\Sytem32 folder. If you download directx9 from Microsoft it will install these files for you. An alternative is to upload the 2 files, from you local machine, to the server's C:\Windows\Sytem32 folder.*** |
Quote: | You now want to copy the DX10 file to your "System32" directory..usually that is C:\windows\System32
Just drop it in there. You can download it from HERE |

Hi rec sorry for the late reply.
Yes that's correct, you do need a current version of DirectX installed on windows servers to successfully run CoD4. (November 2007 or later)
CoD4 will consistently 'crash' in GameCreate if it is not installed on the host machine.
I've just checked and found an old version to be running on that host. It's now updated and CoD4 is working on your server. |
