Our hosts are still trouble-free since last Monday. So your problem is most

How far does the log-on process go before you presumably get an error?
What is printed in the GC window (if you use Windows) or the GC log (if you
use Linux)?

expect more to fall out during the weekend. I hope you guys still have the

Before the European and American masters were established, we were using
the Australian server. It was quite stable, but unfortunately dog slow for EU
users. Not only for installing games, but the web interface itself was slow due
to the long distance, and we had frequent timeouts. So for one I am sceptical
about the response from a server located in the US. Also, the US server used
to be as poor as the EU server - though apparently that's changed. The job
of converting all our configs to a new domain will be a horrendous job, and I
definitely don't want to do it twice to go back when the guys finally fix the EU
problems (which I am sure they do if they dedicate some time to it). I would
probably have switched if I had a host or three, but have been very reluctant
to do so with thirty.

Also, if everyone moved to the US server, how would the guys have anyone
to test and help fix the EU server? Wink

But believe me - I am keeping it open as an option.

For some reason the number of disconnected hosts didn't increase over time,
as has been normal before.

All our hosts have now returned to online state. Mondays seem to be good
days when it comes to GC stability.

We currently have exactly one host acting up with the pong-problems. It has
hostId 5533. The host was working perfectly until the following took place:

The host refused to accept an update of L4D. I RDP'd to the host and noticed
that GC was not running, and assumed that was the cause for the problem,
and that the GC master was confused about the host's state and therefore
displayed it as online. So I started GC, but soon found that GC was indeed
running but under another user - the local owner of the host had logged on
as administrator and started GC. So I stopped GC, killed the other process,
and restarted GC again. I then found that the reason it wouldn't update L4D
was that a number of dirs/files were read only. I made them all writable and
tried again without any luck. They were still unwritable, so I had the owner
rename the subdomain dir as administrator (my RDP user is also in the
administrator group, but I was not allowed to do this). It seems he had to
reboot the machine in the process, because when I later RDPd in again, GC
was no longer running. I restarted GC, and now it pongs out.

I hope there's something in my rather long description that can set you
on the right track to solving the problem.

The host is still not responding, and I've tried to restart GC a couple of
times. So if you can please do whatever magic it is you do to push hosts
back online, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Edit: I am now able to rename and modify the files as I please. I am guessing
the host had to be rebooted for those files to be unlocked even for the
primary administrator.

The host is still offline, and the pong-disease has now also spread to hostid
4092 (7 hours ago). Please stop it in the morning before it becomes an
epidemic. But I hope you can do some investigations into the database and
other systems first to determine the cause.

Problems again. Currently 13 hosts are offline with pong-problems. Most
seem to have died at around 9 this morning (5 hours ago). Can you do your
thing as soon as possible, please?

Every weekend the same problem!
I love gamecreate, theres no better tool for gameserver administration out there. But this is so annoying. As an admin, I have to start all our gameservers manually and all my clanmates tell me to search for an alternative sollution which doesn not exist..

Perhaps we should grab some money together, buy the sourcecode and host our own masterserver for europe Smile

It is very true that this seems to have a tendency of starting during weekends.
You obviously have some sort of trick to fix it since Monday morning, as long
as we've let you know about the problem, it is suddenly fixed. In the interim
period before you figure out the problem, would it be too much to ask you to
just drop into the forum once or twice during the weekend and see if the
problems have manifested themselves? As we know, weekends are when people
game the most, so it is extra detrimental to us EU GC users when it happens
during those days. I hope you can offer us this service - it really shouldn't take
too much effort to drop in here for five minutes once or twice just to make sure
everything is ok? Or simpler: If possible just automate the task you do to
to fix the problem and have it run every 6 or 12 hours or so.

We are in the process of getting a new EU master server, so this should alleviate these problems if not completely fix them.

Unfortunately we don't have a solid ETA as there are a couple of issues to work out, so I don't want to make promises that can't be kept, but it will be soon.

Thank you for the heads up, Steve. I really appreciate it, and am glad to
hear you are determined to fix this problem Smile

However, our hosts are still ponging out. Can you please take a look at it?
