Hello,
We are using Game Create on a single box for all our
servers, everything has been running fine till today.
For some reason we can not get our COD 5 servers to start up
and keep running with Game Create, we are able to make shortcuts of
them (manual) and run them that way but that is it. All our
other servers are fine we run COD 2, COD 4 and COD UO servers all still working fine with Game Create....
This is all we get in the failure report....
Query Failure 1/14/2009 9:23:32 PM
Start GameCreate attempted to start (TNT)Hardcore No Arty/Dogs. 1/14/2009 9:22:40 PM
Stop GameCreate stopped (TNT)Hardcore No Arty/Dogs. 1/14/2009 9:22:37 PM

Fail Query Failure
And it seems like it did this for most of the day...
Query Failures mean that GameCreate could not perform a server query on your server.
The server may not be running correctly, you should check the console output when the server is running to see if its online, and also try and query the server yourself via a game browser.
You can disable query status checking via the Host tab if necessary, but that only ignores the problem.

I can run them fine if I start them up without GameCreate, and yes we can connect to them when running like that, and they are online when started manually, I did try turning off server query today on the COD 5 servers
and fired them up with GameCreate but had the same issues.
It seems to be a problem with Panel Daemon, we have GameCreate
setup as a service through there (which have always had)
but for some reason COD 5 will now not work like this
if using Gamecreate.... which is kinda a bummer because if the
server crashes it will not restart the game servers without such a setup....

Thanks for the help....

You shouldn't need to run the GameCreate Client as as service, just leave it running as an executable.

GameCreate monitors all servers for both Query Failures (where the server cannot be queried from outside of your network - ie, the game has frozen up), as well as Process Failures (the actual server process has terminated/quit).
You do not need to put GameCreate (or a game it launches) under a service - it automatically restarts game servers if they crash for you.
Give it a go, if you start a game server and then quit it using Windows, within 30 seconds or so GameCreate will start it back up.

I think what he means is that if he could start GC as a service, then he could
make GC start automatically when a host reboots after e.g. system maintenance.
By default we have to log on to our hosts after a reboot to start GC either
manually or automatically upon login.
Do you have any suggestions how this can be done in a better fashion? What
do you do in your data center? Surely you don't manually log on to hundreds
of hosts after a system update just to restart GC?
We agree a service version of GameCreate would be very handy (even for us) for fault tolerance.
You should look in to TweakUI, which allows you to configure your Windows server to automatically login when booting up.
Then simply place GameCreate Client in the 'Startup' group in Start>Program Files>Startup and Client will start up when your computer logs in, which will then start all of your servers again.
