|
|
I'm new to GameCreate, and have been trying to set up a CS 1.6 server. When I try to start it, goes into a restart loop and I don't think it actually ever starts. The error in the GC console is "Query Failure". I am able to get the server to start through SSH, and I've stripped down the GC command to the following:
hlds_run -game cstrike -console +ip 69.90.134.69 +port 27015 +maxplayers 14
I'm running on Debian 4.0 - the command I use with SSH starts with ./hlds_run, which I think may be my problem, as the GC command doesn't have the ./ . However, I can't find a way to edit that part of the command, just the parameters (-game, -console, etc.) Does anyone have any insight on this? |

Are you able to query the server that you've started via the command line with something like hlsw or ase from a machine outside of the network? |

I can query it through HLSW and through the Steam client.
Thanks,

Sorry I should have also asked if you were able to query the server with steam or hlsw when you had it running through GameCreate also.
Also to see how turning off server queries and player monitoring on the host goes. |

I've had no success querying it when starting it via GameCreate. I'm not sure it ever really starts at all though, as it just keeps restarting. I don't see any option to turn off server queries or player monitoring in GameCreate - I'm assuming that's a command I'd need to input on the server. I'll search and see if I can find out how to do it.
Also, when I start the server from SSH it hangs for quite a while, and then says
"
No masters loaded
Using default master
Could not establish connection to Steam servers
VAC secure mode is activated.
"
The test server I set up without GameCreate never had that problem...could that error have something to do with it? |

Note that when you start the server with GameCreate, its pretty much doing what you would be doing from the command line.
So its not something GameCreate is doing per-se, rather perhaps its a configuration issue.
Try starting the server manually via SSH using the same command line shown on the Server Overview tab.
Those errors however look like its a firewall issue to the Steam master servers? |

Hmm, it looks like it may have been a firewall issue. I had a working server which I had installed using hldsupdatetool (I copied the install into the gamecreate directory), and it had ports 27015 and 80 open. I decided to try opening 80 on the problem box in addition to 27015, and it seems to be working now. Should that have happened, or is it just a coincidence? Are there recommended firewall settings for the client? |

Also, could the problem with communication to the master servers be due to having an old version of the server? The one that worked is v1.1.2.6/Stdio, Protocol 48, while the questionable one is v1.1.2.0+, Protocol 47. |

I'd be sure to run hldsupdatetool and make sure your game is up to date. |

I've actually tried running it, but it outputs:
"
Checking bootstrapper version
Updating Installation
Cannot open output file gamecreate/hlserver/InstallRecord.blob
"
When I run this command : ./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir gamecreate/hlserver
I've also tried using /gamecreate/hlserver as the directory and get a similar error.
Is this a GameCreate thing or a Steam thing? Googling this error has been pretty fruitless so far... |

That would be a Steam problem.
First, what I would do is try cd'ing to where your server is installed:
bash: cd gamecreate/hlserver
bash: /path/to/steam -command -update -game cstrike -dir .
Also make sure that your current user has read/write access to the directory. |

Looks like it's resolved. I cd'd to the root directory and then entered the full path to steam and to the install directory (after -dir), and it worked, similar to below:
/root/.../steam -command update -game cstrike -dir /root/.../hlserver
This Steam Forum post had the info I needed:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=620153&page=2&highlight=installrecord.blob
Thanks guys for all your help, this seems like a great product and I'm looking forward to working with it. |
