My HDD crashed and I reinstall everything using the same setup and ip address as before.
Then start the gamecreate.x86 with the same login as before and the screen shows GC detecting me using a different IP address then the one I have in my eth0.

Can anyone explain how is the GC retrieve the IP address of the server?

It locates the main IP address, usually the first.

You can use a specific IP if you like.

Close GC Client, open gamecreate.ini and add this line:

ip 123.123.123.123

(Replacing with your real address).

Save and start GC client, you will login with that IP now.

Apparently GC looks for the name of the server in either the local /etc/hosts or dns and if not found, it will use the default value given by ISP for names that does not resolve.

Just add your IP and name into /etc/hosts and you're good to go.
