The error I am getting while trying to start a L4D2 server is failed to startBOpenService failedServiceStart: failed to startexec: couldn't exec server.cfg.

This is a windows 2008 box. I installed the left4dead server via GameCreate, not by uploading files.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

- Have you checked that GC have actually created a server.cfg file? If not, I could send you the one from my servers (vanilla settings, pretty much)

- Can you try to launch the server by making a shortcut of the srcds.exe file like the classic way to do it in windows to make sure it actually launches.


You should also try to experiment with the parameters - I had to remove some from the default in CS:S in order for it to launch. (the +ip parameter)
